The Catalysis research environment is tailored for the efficient catalyst development, testing and characterization purposes. The infrastructure is available for both catalysis and photocatalysis research. The flexibility of the environment allows to widen the material studies also beyond the catalysis research. Currently, the main testing activities are related to purification and/or utilization of emission compounds in mobile and industrial exhaust/flue gases (NOx, CO, CO2, HC, PM, VOC) and cleaning of waters/wastewaters using catalytic and hybrid technologies.
Production of clean fuels and utilization of waste-based materials in environmental applications are the activities of today. More recent research areas – the utilization of emission gases in the production of chemicals and fuels, and as reaction media support the circular economy. For the material characterization several techniques are available including: physisorption (BET-BJH, microporosity), chemisorption, temperature-programmed studies (reducibility, OSC, acidity, basicity), spectroscopy (DRIFT, PAS, IR-microscopy (FPA), PM-IRRAS, FT-Raman, Timegated Raman), elemental analysis, etc.
Catalysis research laboratory provides knowhow, testing and characterization services. This can be enabled via joint research projects or special services. The research needs of the client will be discussed in each case and custom-made services will be offered. Typical services are related for example to finding out the cause for the deactivation of a catalyst, finding the activity or the stability of the catalyst in certain test environments, resolving the specific catalytic information (e.g. acidity, basicity, specific surface area), determining the material emissions [RK1] [EM2] and finding out the surface characteristics of the material.
