VLC (Visible Light Communication) Lab is an experimental research space created to implement, develop, test and validate technologies related to optical wireless communications, particularly visible light communications. Several test-beds have been developed in this laboratory during the past years, and this development work continues, aiming at creating a number of practical solutions as well as novel communication concepts exploiting light. VLC Lab has developed and is developing the following systems:
• VLC test-bed based on USRP (Universal Software Radio Peripherals) (developed)
• VLC test-bed based on FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) (under development)
• VLC test-bed based on in-house developed chip-set (under development)
• Hybrid optical-radio (VLC-RF) communication system test-bed (developed)
• Fast-Handover Hybrid optical-radio (VLC-RF) communication system test-bed (developed)
• Advanced Fast-Handover Hybrid optical-radio (VLC-RF) communication system test-bed (under development)
• Basic Joint Lighting and Light-based Communication research (under development)
• Concept of interactive Visible Light Communications (iVLC): Combining VLC and smart lighting (under development)
• Secure communications based on optical communications (under development)
• Novel concepts and applications of VLC (under development)
• Light-Based IoT: under development

Test-beds development, validation, performance evaluation and experimentation of light-based wireless communications in the following environments:
• indoor: home, office, manufacturing plants, hospitals and schools , aircrafts
• outdoor
• vehicular: car-to-car, car-to-infrastructure
